    Compassion Is Classy

At the local community Center where I volunteer to serve hot meals, I watch and observe the people as they stroll in ready to chow down. You can’t always tell whose living on the streets, but sometimes you can.  Our main concern is making sure these people get a full meal and may God bless each and every one. A Heart for Missions Normally when I think of Missions, my mind goes to those who travel to other countries and places to help the needy in life. I suppose Missions can be local. Maybe Outreach is more appropriate. Ministering to the needs of others is the responsibility of each and every…

    Celebration of Mom

Have you ever wondered how honoring Mom became an official day, recognized by millions? Retailers, especially flower shops and restaurants really look forward to this day for their own special reasons. How Far Back Does Mother’s Day Go? The history mother’s day is actually different from the modern celebration of today. I suppose mother’s day can be liken to the festival in honor of the mother goddesses Rhea and Cybele. This festival was celebrated by the ancient Greeks and Romans. There was also a Christian festival known as Mothering Sunday. Mothering Sunday was once a major tradition in the United Kingdom and parts of Europe. Taking place on the fourth…

    Classy Master Bedroom Redos

Who would not want to have an elegant master bedroom.  The problem is our budget and the how-to.  Some of us have the gift. You know that gift to be able to look at a room and be able to envision colors, furniture, furniture placement, and accessories. Today, technology allows designers to put together meticulously designed rooms with almost no “oops” factor. Once you have the tools to move forward, decorating a master bedroom shoudn’t be difficult.   Don’t Reinvent the Wheel I get a kick out of visiting newly constructed homes, and taking a walk through the tastefully decorated models, along with the other looky loos. I remember this…

    Be a Woman of Grace

In this world of Kardashians and Kardashians wanna be’s, be a GRACE. Doris Day I was night I just happened to be watching A&E Biography. While working at my computer, I looked up long enough to watch the biography of Doris Day. How I loved watching her in musicals and comedy love stories. I learned some interesting facts about this star who I admired a lot. She was the wholesome, girl next door. She was even referred to as the forever virgin. I understood what they meant. If you’ve seen as many of her shows as I have, you’d understand as well. When Movies Were Prim and Proper Remember when…

    Granma or Glamma?

I have observed many women in my age group (over 50) who don’t look the way grandmothers looked a few years ago. To be honest, when I think “granma”, I picture grey hair, wire frame glasses, wearing an apron, and oxford looking shoes. That was my grandmother. What happened? Let’s explore. Pre-Granny When I was many years younger than I am today, being a grandmother seemed thousands of years into the future…..really. I remember being in conversation with a much older co-worker, talking about kids. I told her that I will be so glad when my kids are grown up! She looked at me with a smile and replied back,…

The Wisdom of a Classy Lady

I’ve known knowledgeable people who were able to disseminate that knowledge with wisdom. By the same token, knowledge does not mean one has wisdom. Arrogance or immaturity can block the way to wisdom. Age and experience may bring one wisdom, and if you are a wise person, how do you pass on this wisdom for the benefit of others? Wisdom Is the Principal Thing Do not forsake wisdom, and she will protect you; love her, and she will watch over you. Wisdom is principal; therefore get wisdom. In all you acquire, acquire understanding. Taken from Proverbs 4th Chapter They will still bear fruit in old age, they will stay fresh…

    Forgotten Money

This post is not just for my Senior Sisters.  There are still people who don’t know about money being held by the State of California Controller’s Office. Since no interest is earned while being held, you might just as well know about this and get what’s yours. It’s not complicated The whole process is very easily done. I’ll give you the name of the website later. When I looked up my information, I entered my last name only for the search. When I did that, the system not only found my funds but my entire family because I used only the last name. If there’s any variation in the listed…

    The Lady and Her Shoes

OMG! I love, love shoes shopping. I’m a Senior lady but the passion is still there. Granted I no longer wear the 5-inch heels anymore, but I’m holding steady at 4 — maybe 41/2.  How are you ladies handling wearing heels….if at all? In Remembrance Do you remember your first pair of heels? I remember my first pair vividly. They were beige with a one inch heel, and boy, were they snappy looking. From that time forward, I looked for the unusual styles. Back in the 60s, we had to wear dresses or skirts to school. Some girls wore some of the most stylish clothing. My clothes were mostly used…

    Be a Giver

Giving to others in need is so simple. Even kind words or a smile can make someone’s day. I know this from my years in the Outreach Ministry of my church. Besides the tangible things people may need…being treated with human kindness and dignity goes a long way. Love Thy Neighbor Outreach (LTNO) That is the name of the Outreach Ministry at my local church, Abounding Grace Ministries, COGIC (AGM). The Bible tells us that it does no good to simply speak over a person’s life by telling them to be warmed and filled and not give them the things necessary to be warmed (clothes, coats) and filled (food) when you…
